Taking the Technology Turn

By Norma Immroth

Harold and Harlan Kirk began the Kirk Brothers Auction in 1949. After sixty-seven years in the auction business, technology is making a change in the hometown business.

“We need to change with the times,” stated Wade Kirk, the third-generation auctioneer.

Wade and his sister-in-law, Gena Kirk, who pre-plans the auctions, decided to use technology and do online auctions for agriculture and farming equipment.

“We will not be charging a buyer’s premium,” noted Gena Kirk.

The farming equipment will stay with the seller. It will not be transported, until it is sold. Money will be wired for payment, and the buyer will make arrangements to pick up the equipment.

Due to the health of the now 89-year-old twin brothers, Harold and Harlan, Randy (second-generation son of Harold) continues to lead the group, along with his son, Wade. Others involved in this new adventure include Laura Noll, new web designer; Wade’s wife, Sarah Kirk; and Shelly Cronin, who has put sale bills on the website in the past.

“We will continue doing regular auctions, estates and appraisals,” stated Wade.
